Route Puerto de la Fuenfria (Madrid-Segovia)

Depart from Navacerrada towards Valsain crossing Puerto de la Fuenfria in the Guadarrama National Park. The port of Fuenfría is a mountain pass that crosses Sierra de Guadarrama with an altitude of 1796m. It joins the Spanish provinces of Segovia and Madrid between Sierra de la Mujer Muerta in the west and Siete Picos in the east.

We will take the "path of the republic". This was the route originally used by the Kings to travel from Madrid to Segovia and then restored by the Republicans to have a route between the two cities ("For Whom the Bell Tolls" Hemmingway). The road continues joining at some point with a 1AD Roman Road, used by Emperor Vespasian to travel from Titulsia to Segovia.

While descending towards Segovia, we follow the Minguete stream at the point where the Eresma River is located. Keeping on the left bank we can see and follow the path of the fisheries, a road built by Carlos III to give free rein to his passion for fishing.

The day's journey ends in Valsaín, where King Carlos IV made his first palace (El Bosque) in 1552. We overnight in Valsain to return the next day or continue if your route is longer. For adventures longer than two days we can organize visits to the Palace of la Granja or Segovia City (Aqueduct, Cathedral and Alcazar)
